John Hart's Testimonial
Before (Self-Coached) |
After
Coach: Dr. Stephen McGregor |
"Before" Summary
- Struggling Cat 2—competitive in time trials and flatter crits, but packfill in the hillier longer events
- Lacked the endurance to be in the mix at the end of long road races
- Lacked the strength-to-weight ratio to make the selection on climbs
"Before" Stats:
- 6ft, 170-174 pounds
- Threshold power 300 watts
- 20 min max 351
- 20 min power in watts per kilogram of body weight = 20 min @ 4.486 watts/kilo
- 180 minute average power personal best 269
|
"After" Summary
- 8 pro 1,2 wins and more results!
- Competitive at the regional level in all but the hilliest events
- Finished in the money in a regional Pro 1,2 event, a 110 mile road race with two 2.5 mile climbs--that would never have happened before enlisting Coach McGregor's help
"After" Stats:
- 6ft, 159.5-161.5 pounds
- Threshold power 330 (60 min)-350 (~40 min)
- 20 minute max power increased to 372 watts
- 20 min power in watts per kilogram of body weight = @ 5.127 watts/kilo
- 180 minute average power Personal best 291 watts
|
Conclusions:
- The two greatest changes were in my strength-to-weight ratio and my sustainable power over long durations: Working with my Peaks Coach, I improved my strength to weight ratio by 14%, and my 3 hour sustainable power by 8.5%
- The weight loss had a big impact, and working with a coach adds an extra layer of accountability. It was easier to eliminate empty calories from my diet once I was paying for coaching. Indeed, I wanted to maximize my results.
- I could not have made these improvements on my own. I had been self-coached and stuck on a fitness plateau for more than 6 years, before I began working with Coach Steve.
- Give yourself the chance to find out just how far you can go in the sport—reach out to Hunter Allen and a Peaks Coach today.

Triathlete Bryan Parker's Testimonial for Peaks Coach Stephen McGregor
|
BEFORE SUMMARY
- Run was lacking consistent pace and was becoming a weakness at the end of races. Was struggling to consistently break 1:30 for 70.3 races and 3:30 for 140.6.
- My overall preparation for racing and training was disorganized and “unprofessional”
- Had inconsistent pacing on bike during races, no formal approach or effort gauging.
- Proper nutrition and diet were a concern. Was falling to take in the requisite amount of calories before, during and after races.
- Had much trouble finding the right balance between all 3 sports. I was always over training one sport and sacrificing another, I had no balance.
|
AFTER SUMMARY
- This season I won my first Elite race overall!!!
- Competitive at the regional level triathlons and national level USAT events as well as IM and 70.3 brand races.
- Was able to podium and take home the winner’s check Elite category at Patriot Man Triathlon
- Went to Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Clearwater, FL and was 11th in world for 18-24 AG.
- Have taken my run from a weakness and made it into strength. Fastest run of the year came in my first career win running 1:22 half-marathon.
- I now have a solid race day nutrition plan and have adequate fuel to propel me to a strong finish each time.
- Coach McGregor has taken me from a struggling beginner triathlete and made me into a consistent contender for AG podiums in any distance or race as well as an overall contender in many races as well. I can say that I am a “balanced” athlete under his guidance.

I have purchased every coaching plan that Hunter has written. I have used both of his threshold plans, his spring training plan and his summer training plan. They have been indispensable in helping me dial in the volume and intensity needed to help me reach my potential. In addition to all of Hunter’s plans I also schedule at least two consults per year with him to help me with major goals, like Masters Nationals. His ground breaking work with power is what makes training hard possible for me. Every day on the bike feels like it has a purpose. Every workout feels like it is pushing me closer to my goals. Without Hunter and his plans my training loses the focus that I need to be the absolute best athlete I can be.
Using Hunter’s expertise I have achieved goals that I would not have thought possible. Wattages that were impossible for 20 mins after years of training on my own, I am now able to do for an hour! I finished 6th at the Master’s National Time Trial and before Hunter I would not have been able to finish within the top 30! He has also helped me to win the Category 2 Tennessee Bicycle Racing Association Point Series which was a huge goal of mine. I was doing pretty well through the first half of the season and had taken the lead in the series. But as the second half started to unfold I was not getting the results or producing the numbers that I knew I was capable of. I saw the point series starting to slip out of my grasp. I called Hunter to setup a consult. He listened to what I had been doing and perfectly assessed what I needed to do. He outlined my next month’s worth of training and turned around the last half of my season. I was then able to go on to win the series.
The bottom line is that if you really want to know how good you can be then Hunter and his team ARE THE BEST WAY TO FIND OUT!!!
